There are two big things that monsters love about horror movies. The first is pretty obvious. We love rampaging across your screen, bringing terror to the hapless teenagers running through the woods. Or to the young girl possessed by a demon from Hell. Or to the citizens of Tokyo as we stamp out their buildings, one by one.
(You get the point.)
Those moments are pretty sweet.
But that kind of fun for us is only momentary fear for the horror movie viewer. In the blink of an eye, we’ve popped out from the shadows, scared the pants off you, and retreated back to our marks, lying in wait for the next jump scare.
But can you guess what the gift that keeps on giving is? That’s right. It has nothing to do with terrorizing you at all. But it’s still a pretty terrifying moment.
It’s that awkward glance between you and grandma right before the monster shows up on screen, when the teens are going at it in the backseat.
Good luck revisiting that moment at the family dinner table later.
