This year’s GeekOut kick off party is scheduled to be held at ZaPow!, Asheville’s premier location for creative receptions and the only illustrative studio and art gallery in the Southeast. The party will feature art, music, and free local beer in ZaPow’s signature fashion. Several demonstrating artists will also be present.

Matt Micale:
Much like my everyday life, my artistic style is minimalistic and loosely attached to reality. I love bold lines, vivid colors, and very isolated focal points, creating a clean canvas that allows each viewer to draw their own conclusions with as few distractions as possible. I work primarily in pen and ink, Prismacolor marker, and colored pencil. Occasionally I will play around with a brush andIndia ink or watercolor.
I grew up in the West, mostly Arizona. I studied art at Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ, then spent five years in the US Navy. I have been a semi-professional freelance artist for the past 20 years. In that time, I have lived in six different states and have met many creative, fun, inspirational people who have helped my artwork evolve and grow. I have lived in Asheville since 2005 and find myself thriving amongst the people by which I am currently fortunate enough to be surrounded.
